It has been in several shows over the past few years (Illustrating Nature, Santa Cruz; &#8220;A Closer Look at Wild Things,&#8221; Santa Cruz; 2011 GNSI Annual Exhibit in Olympia, WA; and this month at the Finley Center, Santa Rosa).<\/p>\n<div>\n<div id=\"attachment_92\" style=\"width: 241px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/illustratescience.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/03\/sketchbook_oct1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-92\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-92\" title=\"sketchbook_oct\" src=\"http:\/\/illustratescience.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/03\/sketchbook_oct1.jpg?w=231\" alt=\"\" width=\"231\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/illustratescience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/sketchbook_oct1.jpg 612w, https:\/\/illustratescience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/sketchbook_oct1-231x300.jpg 231w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 231px) 100vw, 231px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-92\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">sketchbook, Giant Pacific Octopus<\/p><\/div>\n<p>One day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, I stood with my nose to the glass looking at the octopus&#8217; tentacles, as it rested on the other side of the glass. I sketched. After an hour passed, she let go of the glass, (looked at me, I think) and I kept sketching. I scanned a black ink sketch, done from these studies, to form the base &#8220;layer&#8221; of my digital painting.
